physical renders each note from a model of the instrument
instead of an oscillator and an envelope: plucked strings use the
extended Karplus‑Strong algorithm (Jaffe & Smith 1983), the
piano uses stiff‑string partials at
fn = n·f₀·√(1+Bn²) struck by a finite‑width
hammer, and bars, tines and drum shells use modal resonator banks.
Rendered voices are cached, so a repeated note is free.
humanize is the other half of not
sounding like MIDI: per‑part feel offsets (the bass sits behind
the ride, the hats push), Gaussian timing jitter, metric accents,
and chords strummed rather than stacked. At 0 everything
lands exactly on the grid at exactly the written velocity.
calibration — the band is matched to a
reference recording by octave-band measurement, then a fixed EQ applies
the difference. tone at 0 means "matches the reference".
Switching to
classic restores the v0.0.1 sound everywhere — keyboard,
drum grid, samples and jam — for an A/B.
